maybe you don’t hate astrology. maybe you hate being put into a box.
August 28th, 2026
i think one of the biggest reasons people hate astrology or “zodiacs,” as people love to call it… is because they feel like they’re being shoved into some weird cosmic personality box.
they read one description of their sun sign and go, that is literally not me, and then decide astrology is bullshit forever.
which… fair.
if someone told me my entire personality was supposed to be explained by being a cancer, i’d probably roll my eyes too.
because for a long time, i did not fully resonate with my cancer sun. i always felt way more connected to my scorpio rising. which, now that i know more about astrology, is honestly kind of hilarious because scorpio rising can be… A LOT.
like yes, apparently i would love to know everything about you while revealing almost nothing about myself.
yes, i may notice one tiny shift in your tone and immediately begin a private fbi investigation into what it means.
yes, i might decide i don’t trust someone based on a vibe that i cannot explain in any rational way.
and yes, sometimes the vibe is right, which is unfortunately terrible reinforcement for this behavior.
then you add a cancer sun and cancer moon into the mix and suddenly i’m emotionally attached to people, places, songs, old text messages, a house i lived in ten years ago, the exact feeling of a specific summer, and probably a random sweater because “it has memories.”
extremely normal behavior. *scoffs haha
the unhealed version of all of this is especially funny.
scorpio rising can become suspicious, guarded, hyper-observant, quietly obsessive, and convinced there is always something happening underneath the surface.
cancer energy can become sensitive, defensive, moody, nostalgic, overly protective, and capable of remembering something you said in 2014 with frightening accuracy.
so basically, if i’m at my absolute worst, i am a tiny emotional detective sitting in my little shell collecting evidence.
cute.
and this is also why i think astrology gets misunderstood so easily.
people love to minimize it down to things like, “cancers cry,” “scorpios are crazy,” “geminis are fake,” or “aries are angry.”
and i have absolutely been guilty of this too.
there was a period of my life where i genuinely thought, i do not get along with aries.
any time i felt friction with someone and found out they were an aries, i was basically like, see. the stars have spoken.
meanwhile, that is obviously ridiculous.
two aries can be completely different humans.
one could have a pisces moon and cancer rising and be extremely sensitive and soft. another could have an aquarius moon and sagittarius rising and feel completely different.
and then, on top of that, you have childhood, family dynamics, relationships, trauma, culture, environment, personality, life experiences, personal choices, and approximately one million other things shaping a person.
a birth chart is not a permission slip to be an asshole.
you cannot emotionally destroy someone and then be like, “sorry, i’m a scorpio.”
believe me. i would love that kind of legal protection.
but that isn’t really the point of astrology.
at least not to me.
i think of it more like a language for patterns.
sometimes you read something in your chart and it feels uncomfortably accurate. sometimes it makes you understand why you react to something a certain way. sometimes it points out qualities you love about yourself.
and sometimes it drags you by your hair and makes you realize that your “intuition” might occasionally just be anxiety wearing a witch hat.
personally attacked.
the older i get, the more i actually do see my cancer placements in myself.
the softness. the loyalty. the attachment to home and memory. the instinct to protect people i love. the sentimental side of me that i probably spent years pretending wasn’t there because my scorpio rising was standing at the front door looking intimidating.
and that’s what i find so fascinating about astrology.
you aren’t one sign.
you aren’t even three signs.
you’re this strange combination of placements layered on top of an entire lifetime of becoming who you are.
astrology doesn’t tell me everything about someone.
i don’t want it to.
humans are way more interesting than that.
but i do love the idea that somewhere in the exact minute and place you were born, there is this weird little celestial blueprint full of contradictions.
soft but guarded.
independent but deeply attached.
confident in one area and completely unhinged in another.
flawlessly human.
and maybe that’s why i keep coming back to astrology.
not because i think the stars control every decision we make.
but because i think humans are fascinating, and i will apparently use any available tool to psychoanalyze both myself and everyone i have ever met.
xoxo,
