it feels like remembrance

i used to see angel numbers all the time.

111 - 222 - 333 - 444 - 555 -1111

on clocks, receipts, screenshots, map eta, license plates, random places i wasn’t looking…

then this year got busy.

really busy. throw a new baby and wedding planning in the mix &&

life became louder, fuller, faster, and at some point i stopped seeing them as often.

or maybe i just stopped noticing.

the funny thing is, i didn’t even realize they were gone.

it wasn’t until the last few weeks that i noticed they were showing up again. A LOT.

and weirdly, it’s happening at the same time i’ve started writing more. creating more. dressing up more. paying attention to what i actually like again. letting myself make things without needing them to be useful or polished or explainable.

lately, the number i keep seeing is 555.

so much that i’ve started laughing when it happens. (it literally happened again today.)

and yes, i know the joke.

“if you look at the clock all day, of course you’re going to see repeating numbers.”

fair.

except i don’t look at the clock all day…

half the time i pick up my phone for some completely unrelated reason and there it is.

5:55.

again.

and again.

and again.

i’m not really interested in convincing anyone that angel numbers are objectively messages from the universe.

i don’t know that anyone can prove that.

maybe they’re synchronicities.

maybe they’re spiritual.

maybe they’re psychological.

maybe they’re all of those things at once.

what interests me more is what happens when i notice them.

for half a second, i stop.

i pay attention.

i ask myself what i was just thinking about.

what i’ve been avoiding.

what i’ve been feeling.

where i’m going.

and maybe that pause is the point. (:

because lately, seeing angel numbers again hasn’t felt like discovering something new.

it feels like remembering something old.

a return.

a soft reintroduction to a part of myself that i think has always been there.

i keep thinking about children when i think about this.

how naturally open they are.

how easily they imagine.

how strongly they feel things.

how often they trust instinct before they learn to second-guess it.

kids talk to imaginary friends. they make entire worlds out of nothing. they tell you they don’t like someone before they have the language to explain why. they notice things adults overlook.

and then somewhere along the way, we teach them what is “real.”

what is reasonable.

what is appropriate.

what is too much.

what is silly.

what should be ignored.

maybe intuition doesn’t disappear.

maybe we’re just trained out of listening to it.

maybe imagination doesn’t leave us.

maybe we learn to be embarrassed by it.

maybe our sensitivity doesn’t go away.

maybe we just get really good at numbing it.

i think a lot of adulthood is learning how to function in the world.

but i also think some of adulthood is realizing how much of yourself you turned down in order to do that.

and then deciding what you want back.

for me, the last decade has felt a little like that.

a return to things i used to dismiss.

intuition.

creativity.

astrology.

symbolism.

old stories.

the strange feeling you get in certain places.

the people you instantly trust.

the people you instantly don’t.

the ideas that arrive before you understand them.

the little coincidences that make you stop and go, okay, that was weird.

maybe these are gifts.

maybe “gift” is too loaded of a word for some people.

maybe it’s just sensitivity.

awareness.

pattern recognition.

inner knowing.

whatever you call it, i think most of us are born with more of it than we realize.

and then life gets noisy.

deadlines.

emails.

schedules.

parenting.

bills.

appointments.

responsibilities.

trying to be productive.

trying to be liked.

trying to be normal.

trying to be sensible.

trying to keep up.

eventually, it gets difficult to hear anything underneath all of that.

including yourself.

which is why i find it interesting that the numbers came back when i started creating again.

or maybe i came back.

writing has made me pay attention differently.

i notice phrases.

images.

things people say.

things i feel.

things i almost say and then don’t.

i notice what keeps repeating.

and i wonder if creativity and intuition are much closer cousins than we give them credit for.

both ask you to listen before you understand.

both ask you to trust something you can’t fully explain yet.

both usually get quieter when you become overly concerned with whether you’re doing things correctly.

maybe that’s why i’ve been seeing 555.

in modern numerology, 555 is associated with change, movement, freedom, transition, and letting go of an old version of yourself.

which feels almost annoyingly on the nose right now. amiright???

i’m writing again.

making things again.

thinking differently.

dressing more like me.

questioning old versions of myself.

letting go of the need to make everything make sense.

trying to become less interested in being understood by everyone.

trying to remember what i liked before i started editing myself.

so when i see 555 now, i don’t necessarily think, something huge is about to happen.

i think:

something is already changing.

maybe the number is just reminding me to notice…

and for anyone curious, the common meanings usually associated with repeating angel numbers look something like this:

111 beginnings, intention, focus.
pay attention to what you’re thinking about and what you’re starting.

222 trust, balance, relationships, patience.
a reminder that not everything needs to be forced.

333 creativity, expression, communication.
often associated with being seen, speaking up, and making things.

444 grounding, stability, protection.
come back to your foundation.

555 change, freedom, movement, transformation.
something is shifting. don’t cling too tightly to what is familiar.

666 recalibration.
less sinister than pop culture makes it sound. usually interpreted as a reminder to rebalance your thoughts or priorities.

777 introspection, spirituality, inner knowing.
reflection, intuition, and trusting what you already know.

888 abundance, momentum, reciprocity.
often associated with money, opportunity, success, and receiving.

999 endings, completion, release.
a chapter is closing. let it.

000 reset, possibility, wholeness.
a blank page.

1111 alignment, awakening, threshold moments.

…

stop and notice where you are.

none of these meanings are universal laws.

angel numbers as we talk about them now are part of modern numerology and contemporary spirituality, and interpretations vary depending on who you ask.

which honestly makes me like them more.

i don’t want a rigid cosmic instruction manual.

i like symbols.

i like things that make you think.

i like moments that interrupt autopilot.

i like the possibility that life can still feel a little mysterious.

and i especially like the idea that maybe being “in tune” isn’t about receiving some loud, dramatic message from somewhere outside of yourself.

maybe it’s much quieter than that.

maybe it’s noticing what keeps repeating.

maybe it’s trusting the feeling before the explanation arrives.

maybe it’s creating without permission.

maybe it’s remembering the version of you who existed before everyone had an opinion about who you should be.

i don’t know if 555 is following me.

i don’t know if the universe is trying to tell me something.

i don’t know if my brain has simply decided this number matters and now notices it more often.

but every time i see it lately, i feel something.

a tiny recognition.

like a tap on the shoulder.

like:

pay attention.

you’re changing.

keep going.

and maybe that’s enough.

maybe the signs never left.

maybe i just got quiet enough to see them again. <3

ss
