dressed like the eccentric aunt i plan to become
i apparently decided the dress code was lavender, several pounds of jewelry and pretending i inherited an estate in the south of france.
the dress is the cyrina gown by astr the label from revolve, and i bought it a few months before the trip specifically for this wedding. i was so excited to wear her. the pleats, the color, the whole slightly dramatic situation. perfect.
the jewelry was, as usual, a mix of chaos. a free people pearl necklace with a cross pendant that is sadly no longer available, resin bangles from amazon, and a bunch of old gold jewelry i’ve collected over the years. there was no real strategy beyond more is more.
and then france humbled me.
i pulled the dress out of my suitcase and decided i should probably steam out some of the wrinkles before the wedding.
YOU GUYS.
it fucking melted.
not the whole thing, thankfully, but a couple of the seams on the front literally melted apart and left these tiny holes in the dress.
i just stood there looking at it like...
cool.
very cool.
because of course i had not brought another wedding dress. and this was the color the bride wanted me in.
so there was really no plan b.
which is how, on the way to the wedding, we ended up googling french hobby stores in search of fabric glue.
we found some, i sat there trying my absolute hardest to glue the seams back together from the inside, and for a minute i genuinely thought i was making the entire situation worse. it held enough, but the glue also dried slightly darker than the fabric, because apparently this dress hadn't suffered enough.
but somehow?
we made it work.
you really couldn't see it unless you knew where to look, the dress survived the wedding, and in the photos it looks completely normal. arguably even beautiful, which feels incredibly disrespectful considering what she put me through that afternoon.
can i wear it again?
currently unclear.
i'm hoping someone who actually knows what they're doing with alterations can perform some kind of textile resurrection when i get home.
but for one very chaotic afternoon in provence, she lived.
and honestly, i'd wear the entire look again.xoxo,
xoxo,
